13th Rajab | Birth of The First Imam, ‘Ali Ibn Abu Talib (as)

It was Friday 13th Rajab in the 30th Year of Elephants; Fatima bint Asad, the wife of Abu Talib entered the precincts of the Ka'bah and prayed to Allah saying, O’ My protector ease my pain.’ All of a sudden the wall of the Ka'bah opened up and she, as if by some unseen force went inside the Ka'bah and the wall closed.

‘Ali (as) the youngest son of Abu Talib was born inside the Holy Ka'bah. She stayed inside for three days. On the 3rd day she came out through the door and Prophet Muhammadﷺ was waiting outside. She told Beloved Muhammadﷺ that the boy had not taken any milk. Beloved Prophetﷺ gave him the first feed from his mouth and afterwards asked his uncle Abu Talib that he wished to adopt the baby.

‘Ali entered the house of Prophet Muhammadﷺ from the very first day of his birth. ‘Ali’s mother Fatima bint Asad also lived there who looked after his own son as well as Prophetﷺ so much so that later the Holy Prophetﷺ used to say that she was like his own mother.

Shah Waliullah, Muhaddith-e-Dehlvi writes in his book "Izalatul Khulafa", another writer of the old school Sibtal Jauzi in his book Tazkiratul Khawas ul Ummah, mentions the same fact that ‘Ali was born inside the Ka'bah.

Sultan-ul-Hind Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Ajmeri (ra) mentions this fact in his famous Quartet saying that, "When ‘Ali was born inside the Ka'bah the Sky and the earth was filled with a light and Angel Gabriel announced that a child was born in the house of Godﷻ.

Maulana Rumi in his Mathnawi writes, “ O’one who travels to Najef to visit the tomb of ‘Ali must know the fact that the pearl of the Ka'bah lies there to give us security because of our intense love for him.”

It was after the adoption of ‘Ali (as) that he lived with the Holy Prophetﷺ in his house.

Wherever Prophetﷺ went ‘Ali (as) was with him all the time. Even in the Mountain of Hira when Prophetﷺ went for meditation ‘Ali (as) went with him most of the time. Sometimes they stayed on the mountain for 3 or 4 days. Sometimes ‘Ali (as) took his food there. In Nahjul Balagha ‘Ali (as) said that “ I used to go with the Holy Prophet like the baby camel goes with his mother.”

This day Mark's the birth of this holy being who is never separated from the Prophetﷺ in his worldly life, nor in the lineage, nor in the afterlife. In fact Ali (as) and Prophetﷺ where together in the realm of Souls before the creation of the universe and even before that they were one in the realm of light, as it is mentioned by the Prophetﷺ:
"I and Ali are created from the same light."

JERUSALEM AND UMAR IBN AL-KHATTAB (RA)

Jerusalem is a city holy to the three largest monotheistic faiths – Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Because of its history that spans thousands of years, it goes by many names: Jerusalem, al-Quds, Yerushaláyim, Aelia, and more, all reflecting its diverse heritage.
